The Herb Garden

Engage All Your Senses

While people give loads of attention to their flower beds, their lawns and take care of trees with regular pruning and religiously keep those shrubs trimmed not many give much thought to Herbs. Pity this, as Herbs, whether used for culinary, medicinal or aesthetic reasons, are an amazing group of plants. They are the exact kind of plant every gardener should have in their yard. So, amazing are herbs in fact that they should have their own little section of the landscape to call their own. Hence the creation of The Herb Garden.

In olden times The Herb Garden was not for decoration nor for spicing up food so much as to ward off ailments. Lacking doctors around every corner and drug stores at the end of each road people sought treatments for sundry maladies from the plants around them. This is how The Herb Garden became a necessity in every home.

Now with the accumulated knowledge of many centuries, many cultures and much research to back up what may have been mere speculation The Herb Garden has taken on a life of its own and has become once again a necessity, not just a luxury.  The Herb Garden is all those things, for health, for flavoring food and also for their aesthetically pleasing forms to beautify our world. Herbs, in fact,  have become as popular again as they were back in the day.

So, welcome to The Herb Garden where you will learn about herbs, which herbs are best to grow in the home garden, which are the most ornamental, their uses way-back-when and now-a-days, how to harvest herbs properly for best flavor and potency  and how to properly put together an Herb Garden even if you lack the land on which to grow one.

Wonderful zone, Glory. I have catnip, oregano, basil, and several varieties of mint in my garden. Sage and thyme, too. I'm adding a link to this zone on my CreativeGardening blog and on the Container Gardening Zone.

"Herb" in the Caribbean has a different meaning, and it would get you arrested! They would refer to yours as a spice garden. Extremely well done and I love the photos.
